Stylish Drab to Fab Kitchen Makeover in Dallas, Texas

Client experiences:

After purchasing a home built in 1978 on a gorgeous creek lot near the Brentfield schools on Prestonbend Drive, our clients set their sights on significantly updating the home. Having previously lived in a custom home they had built, the layout and condition of this home’s kitchen had left no options except to gut, redesign, and renovate the entire kitchen.

The owners wanted to explore modernizing the kitchen and create a more functional space.

A successful meeting:

Since few things are as easy as they sound, timing was a major concern. They still owned another home in Dallas that had to be sold but they wanted to transition directly to the Prestonbend Drive house. Understanding and appreciating this priority, we had to plan, design, and execute this Dallas kitchen and connected spaces renovation in fewer than 120 days.

Project Summary:

The kitchen remodel involved removing an entire wall that separated the family room and kitchen, and raising the kitchen ceiling to achieve a transformational style that better reflects today’s kitchen architecture. The previous kitchen had finishes that sucked up all the light and left a drab impression. The new space promotes brightness and airiness through the abundance of natural light and larger overall space. The kitchen has been redesigned with a functional layout geared to both cooking and entertainment. Visitors are greeted with a strong visual impression that is based on the new orientation that the USI kitchen team designed.

Project scope:

  • Designed new kitchen envelope.
  • Created new kitchen with integration of new appliance layout and with additional specialty appliances for convenience.
  • Removed all popcorn ceilings throughout the home.
  • Provided new texture throughout the home.
  • Painted throughout the home.
  • Installed new family room entertainment built-ins.
  • Installed all new floor coverings (hardwood and carpeting).
  • Installed new lighting throughout the home.
  • Did two guest bathroom renovations.

  • 2014 Winner, Best Kitchen Remodel, Texas Builders Association Star Award
  • 2014 Winner, Residential Kitchen ($80K-$120K), NARI Greater Dallas CotY Award
